Community Organizing 101
DFW Obama Alumni are proud to present “Community Organizing 101 Training” for Dallas progressives. We are firm believers in the power of organizing to transform people’s lives—and our country—and hope to empower people with the tools locally. The past few months have shown an incredible groundswell of energy and enthusiasm. This training will share the fundamentals that were successful on the ’08 and ’12 Obama campaigns, but were pioneered by the labor movement, civil rights, and political campaigns across the spectrum, and will help you be more effective in your work.
This free, 4-hour training will cover the following:
1. Organizing your people: recommended models for teams from the neighborhood team structure to the snowflake model, and how these teams help empower, reduce burnout, and ensure sustainablility.
2. Sharing your story: how to effectively share your personal story and recommendations on how to use it to motivate others to join you and act.
3. Effective 1:1s: once you’ve honed your personal story, how to make an ‘ask’ for pepole to join your team and cause.
This training is non-issued or electoral based; the goal is to teach fundamentals that can be applied across campaigns and causes. We hope you can join us!
Who this is for: Great for people who are relatively new to politics, but want to learn how to be effective and turn your activism into sustainable action. Maybe you’ve started or are a part of an Indivisible group, have joined neighborhood meetings, or have been doing this for a while and just want some more inspiration. Join us!
About the trainers: Andrew Greenberg (Obama ’12 campaign alum), Gillea Allison (’08 and ’12 campaign alum), and Jara Butler (’08 campaign alum) are the lead trainers for this session, with combined decades of experience organizing on political campaigns, doing issue advocacy, and organizing locally. They will be joined by other local Obama alumni and experienced organizers as coaches.
Space is limited, so please RSVP via Eventbrite to confirm your spot.
