Springfield March For Science

The March for Science is an international movement, led by organizers distributed around the globe. On Saturday, April 22, or Earth Day, the home march takes place in Washington, D.C. and hundreds of satellite marches on six continents have been organized to occur simultaneously. This march is one of them.

Rain or shine, we will congregate at 10:30am in Jenny Lincoln Park on the corner of Harrison and South St. in downtown Springfield. We will march a half mile straight up to Park Central Square for a rally with a lineup of some important voices in our community.

Dr. Pamela Gay, Director of Technology and Citizen Science at the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, and co-host of the podcast Astronomy Cast.

The March for Science is taking place because of the simultaneous realization by people who value science in their lives, that a call to support and safeguard the scientific community is both necessary and urgent. We champion robust public funding and publicly communicated science as a pillar of human freedom and prosperity. We unite as a diverse, nonpartisan group to call for science that upholds the common good, and for political leaders and policymakers to enact evidence-based policies in the public interest.

We will continue to work with the city and will update this event with more specifics as they become available.
