Puente 10 Year: A Decade of Resistance!
On Sunday, Oct 15th at 6:00 PM PST, Puente will be celebrating 10 years of resistance and set the ground for the next decade to come, save the date and celebrate with us!
We started Puente in 2007 in order to defend and protect our communities and together we built a political home for migrant communities here in Arizona. Together we have fought against the agreement between police and federal immigration (287g) in Arizona that led to cruel attacks on our community at the hands of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and we continue to organized against him to remove the culture of hate he left behind in this country and demand reparations for our community #ICEoutofMaricopa. Now after over a decade of organizing and exposing his abuse on our people we claimed another victory by removing Arpaio after years of grassroots organizing.
We have together built a membership and leadership that has always been comprised of those most impacted by anti-immigrant policies and laws: currently and formerly undocumented people, those in mixed-status families, and people of color affected by rampant racial profiling. Together we drove across the country on the Undocubus with our #AltoArizona campaign to lift up the human rights crisis in Arizona in the wake of the passage of notorious anti-immigrant law SB1070, and the No Papers, No Fear Ride for Justice (Undocubus). Together we have built a political home in Arizona and a community that is organized and is now a force to be reckoned with.
